Dean's Message
Welcome to the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS).
On behalf of our more than 3,000 students, faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and staff, I invite you to explore this dynamic intellectual community.
SEAS is a unique school of engineering and applied sciences. Harvard’s newest and fastest growing school, we have no traditional departments. Instead, we are organized around overlapping areas that encourage interdisciplinary and highly collaborative teaching, research, and scholarship. Our structure opens unlimited possibilities for discovery and innovative approaches – and positions us to advance our ambitious mission:
Through teaching and collaborative research, SEAS discovers, designs and creates novel technologies and approaches to societal challenges—in service to the world, the nation, and our community. We bridge disciplines, both within engineering and the applied sciences and beyond, to prepare broadly trained leaders, to advance foundational science, and to achieve translational impact.
SEAS belongs to one the world’s great liberal arts universities and enjoys deep connections to Harvard’s world-class professional schools of medicine, law, business, public health, policy, and design and affiliated teaching hospitals. We are Harvard’s connector, from the sciences through engineering to society. We are situated in the Boston region’s unrivaled innovation ecosystem and with a growing enterprise research campus as our neighbor.
This rich constellation of resources attracts the best minds from every corner of the world. And we, in turn, welcome all into a diverse and inclusive community in which everyone enjoys the opportunity to thrive and to contribute to our shared enterprise.
I hope you will consider joining us.
