Reappointments and Departures
Reappointments
The relevant Academic Appointments Manager will inform the faculty member and/or faculty administrator one month before a research appointment is due to expire if the appointee is a U.S. citizen, and two months before if the appointee is a non-U.S. citizen so that there will be time to process a visa extension, if necessary.
Paid appointments:
- Faculty member/administrator sends reappointment letter to appointee and Academic Appointments Manager and indicates any change in salary / stipend.
- The Academic Appointments Manager confirms any costing changes with the relevant Research Portfolio Manger.
- The Academic Appointments Manager requests visa extension, if necessary, from HIO, and appointee completes new I-9 form, if necessary
- The Academic Appointments Manager submits reappointment
Unpaid appointments:
- Faculty member/administrator sends reappointment letter to appointee and Academic Appointments Manager.
- The Academic Appointments Manager requests visa extension, if necessary, from HIO
- The Academic Appointments Manager submits reappointment
Departures
- Faculty member/administrator confirms by email or letter that the appointee will be leaving Harvard
- The Academic Appointments Manager enters a termination action if the departure date is prior to the appointment end date
- The Academic Appointments Manager sends eNED form to inform HIO of the departure of any appointee on a Harvard visa
- The Academic Appointments Manager removes appointee from the appropriate email listserv and directories
- Faculty administrator ensures that keys are returned
