Harvard Undergraduate Clean Energy Group
The Harvard Undergraduate Clean Energy Group (HUCEG) aims to accelerate the clean energy transition through interdisciplinary education and climate action. We provide student access to the following:
- speaker events with industry professionals, professors, and politicians
- clean energy reporting in the form of a journal, newsletter, and podcast
- career opportunities in clean energy and sustainability, including term-time, collaborative projects with industry partners as well as summer and post-graduate opportunities
- hands on experience developing clean energy policy for the city of Cambridge with our policy team
- discussions and workshops to educate students about relevant energy topics
- access to mentorship pairings that relate to specific student interests
We aim to provide the tools and opportunities for undergraduate students to make an impact in the clean energy space.
HBS Energy and Environment Club
The Energy and Environment Club aims to develop the next generation of leaders in the Energy & Environment sectors by providing a forum for education on energy- and environment-related issues, and by serving as the main facilitator for communication between the Harvard Business School community and the E&E sectors. The club covers a wide range of topics including conventional energy, clean energy, sustainability and environmental conservation and hosts an annual energy symposium every autumn.
The Harvard College Environmental Action Committee (EAC)
The Harvard College Environmental Action Committee seeks to help achieve a sustainable world and protect the environment for its human and non-human inhabitants. To this end, the EAC aims to raise the consciousness of Harvard's students to the effect of their own actions on the environment and to their status as stewards of this planet's resources. We advocate specific changes at the campus, local, national, and international levels. Furthermore, we serve as a forum for discussion and a source of information on environmental issues. Finally, we seek to enrich our members through fun and fulfilling experiences. General Board Meetings are Wednesdays from 8-9 pm in the Quincy Spindell Room.
Harvard College Engineering Society (HCES)
The Harvard College Engineering Society is a student-run organization at Harvard College aimed at promoting engineering and cross-disciplinary collaboration on campus through participating in competitions and working on various engineering projects, as well as serving as a resource for undergraduate engineers at Harvard.
The Harvard Energy Journal Club (HEJC)
HEJC is a journal club that meets weekly to facilitate discussion and understanding of the technical details of energy technology and energy economics. Each session, members will discuss subjects relevant to the science, technology, or economics of energy. HEJC's primary purpose is not to discuss policy issues, but rather to enable its members to develop the necessary technical background to better understand energy issues and policy. We cover a broad range of topics, including:
- Depletable resources: oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, etc.
- Renewable resources: solar, hydro, wind, biomass and biofuels, wave, tidal, geothermal, etc.
- Applications: clean coal, CO2 capture, synthetic fuels, gasification, fuel cells, photovoltaic cells, the electric grid, energy storage, etc.
HEJC meetings are open to Harvard and MIT students and postdocs
The Harvard Environmental Law Society
The HLS Environmental Law Society is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization directed and staffed by students at Harvard Law School. This group provides students with hands-on exposure to the numerous issues in law, policy, science and management that confront professionals in the field of environmental law. Members participate in conferences, host speakers, take trips and collaborate with groups throughout the University and the world in their effort to address environmental issues.
HSPH Sustainability & Health Student Forum
The Sustainability & Health Student Forum at the Harvard T.H. Chan School is a student organization whose mission is to provide public health students a platform for discourse and action on addressing pressing challenges facing the health of people and the planet, from climate change and urbanization, to energy and food security, to migration and green healthcare.
- To provide a dynamic space for meaningful discussions and debates around current and emerging issues on sustainability and health
- To enable students to share the latest knowledge, skills, and practices vital for sustainability and health
- To serve as a venue for advocacy around the nexus of health and sustainability
- To develop collaborative research and implementation projects that examine and address challenges at the heart of sustainability and health
Resource Efficiency Program (REP)
The Resource Efficiency Program (REP) employs undergraduate students to be representatives (REP Reps) to their peers in their dorms and houses. These students educate their peers on environmental issues while advocating for pragmatic environmental efforts, such as changing incandescent light bulbs for florescent bulbs, double-sided printing, and reducing food waste. The program also works with the administration to make sustainable changes in their facilities and operations. The REP program is available to students at Harvard College, Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School but welcomes outside volunteers to participate in REP activities and campaigns.
