Kiyoul Yang, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) has received the 2023 Young Faculty Award from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
The Young Faculty Award provides funding to early career faculty to develop their research and foster “the next generation of academic scientists, engineers, and mathematicians who will focus a significant portion of their career on DoD and National Security issues.”
Yang’s research focuses on integrated photonic systems for applications in computing, communications, quantum engineering, and sensing. The Young Faculty Award will fund his project into building ultrafast lasers on a chip with photonic-electronic integration, passive mode locking and computational optimizations.
Yang joined SEAS in 2023 after completing his postdoc training in Stanford. He received his Ph.D. from Caltech.
