Harvard President Lawrence Bacow has approved Yaron Singer, Professor of Computer Science, to the role of full professor with tenure at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS).
Singer’s work focuses on the intersection of algorithms and machine learning. His work focuses on understanding the power and limitations of algorithms whose input is learned from data, design of machine learning algorithms that are robust to adversarial noise, and provably fast optimization algorithms for fundamental problems in machine learning.
Singer received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley. Before coming to Harvard, he was a postdoc at Google Research. Singer has received a Sloan Research Fellowship, NSF CAREER Award, Google Faculty Research Award and Facebook Faculty Award. As a graduate student, he received the Microsoft Research fellowship and the Facebook fellowship.
He has taught several courses on machine learning and optimization including, Foundations of Machine Learning (CS 183), Advanced Optimization (AM 221), and Networks (CS 134).
