Optics research co-authored by Cheng Wang, S.M. ’15 (engineering sciences), Ph.D. ’17 (engineering sciences), has been published in Nature.
Wang, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at City University of Hong Kong, and his collaborators fabricated an on-chip lithium niobate modulator that is about one hundred times smaller and more efficient than current devices. The smaller device could enable faster data transmission at a much lower cost.
Wang collaborated with researchers at Harvard and Nokia Bell Labs on the project.
