SummerCamp is a community of Harvard interns in the Bay Area, Boston/Cambridge, NYC, and Seattle who come together every summer to celebrate technology. This periodic series highlights student experiences in SummerCamp programs.
One highlight of this past summer for for me was the opportunity to get to go to the code.org headquarters in Seattle through Harvard SummerCamp. SummerCamp organized a fireside chat with Alice Steinglass, the president of code.org, for about 15 SummerCamp members. We got to see the code.org headquarters and hear from Alice about her experience transitioning from the private sector to a non-profit, her journey towards finding a career she loved, and the future of computer science education and its implications for students everywhere, especially for those currently underrepresented in computer science. It was incredible to get to hear from someone with so much experience in this field and the event provided a uniquely intimate forum to ask Alice questions (and get to hear her wisdom!) It was inspiring to hear from Alice directly how much code.org is influencing the future of tech, and to get to do all of this on an average summer afternoon.
