Sung Hoon Kang, Ph.D. ’12 (applied physics) has received the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Program Award.
Kang is assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering and a member of the university’s Extreme Materials Institute. His team studies methods to control nano/micro/macro architectures to have desired behaviors and properties as responses to stimuli, such as fluids and mechanical forces.
The three-year award will fund Kang’s project, “Bioinspired Synthesis of Multifunctional Materials with Self-adaptable Mechanical Properties and Self-regeneration.”
