David A. Rigney, S.M. ’62 (applied physics), presented the conference-opening invited talk at the 21st International Conference on the Wear of Materials (WOM). Rigney’s talk addressed “Modeling and the Real World.”
The presentation was part of a symposium in honor of Ken Ludema, the principal organizer of the first WOM conference, held 40 years ago. Rigney’s first paper on tribology was presented at that initial conference.
Rigney, who also holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Cornell University, is Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University.
