Ken Keeler, A.B. ’83, S.M. ’90, Ph.D. ’90 (applied mathematics) participated in a panel discussion hosted by UCLA titled “The Calculus of Comedy: Math in The Simpsons, Futurama, and The Big Bang Theory.”
Keeler, who has written for “The Simpsons,” “Futurama,” the “Late Show with David Letterman,” and other television series, also served as a co-executive producer and an executive producer of “Futurama.” One of the show’s most prolific writers, he has nine episodes to his name.
During the event, Keeler and fellow panelists discussed some of the mathematical nuggets hidden in the popular TV shows.
