Cambridge, Mass. – April 22, 2015 – The New York City Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has awarded Harvard College senior Alexandra Deitche ’15 the 2014 Colonel and Mrs. S. S. Dennis, III Scholarship in recognition of her hard work and dedication to research.

In a ceremony on April 10, Harry R. Lewis, Interim Dean of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), presented Deitche with a certificate of accomplishment and a scholarship check for $1,000 from SAME.

Deitche is scheduled to graduate in May from the Mechanical Engineering S.B. program. She arrived at SEAS in 2013, transferring from the United States Military Academy. During her time at SEAS she has been actively involved in campus life and volunteered to provide academic mentoring to both prospective and current Harvard students.

For her senior design project, she designed a low-powered refrigeration system for vaccines and other pharmaceuticals that can be utilized to prevent spoilage in low-resource and remote settings.

Deitche's adviser on the design project was Chris Lombardo, Assistant Director for Undergraduate Studies in Engineering Sciences.
